13TH NOVEMBER 2024
The Ministry of Food and Agriculture as part of the strategy for the operationalizing of the Planting for Food and Jobs Phase Two (PFG2) programme in the Agona West Municipality on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 commenced the distribution of input grants to farmers in the area.
The move is to enhance the productivity of the farmers as well as boost their livelihoods and ultimately build their capacity to become successful smallholder or commercial farmers.
More than two hundred farmers in the Agona West Municipality have been receiving support in the form of farms inputs including 3 bags (50KG) each of NPK fertilizers, 1 bag (50kg) each of Urea and 10kg bag of maize seeds.
Distributing the items to the beneficiary farmers, the Agona West Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Evans Addison Coleman, stressed that the PFJ programme was a well-thought-out initiative aimed at building on the successes of the initial programme while addressing any shortcomings encountered.
He urged all farmers in Agona West and its environs to join the rest of the country and take advantage of the PFJ2 to increase their yield to boost their livelihoods.
The Municipal Director of Agriculture, Mrs. Agartha Eyipey on her part noted that her outfit had toured the various communities of the Municipality to register farmers and was relying on the available data for the distributing exercise.
She intimated that the Agric Department was collaborating with the Agona West Municipal Assembly and the office of the Agona West Member of Parliament for the successful distribution of the input grants to farmers in the area.
