7TH NATIONAL ADVOCACY ON SOCIAL NORMS SEMINAR

In her quest to ensure Government's Open Defecation Free agenda, Hon. Justina Marigold Assan met some distinguished Champions of social change at the 7th National Advocacy on Social Norms Seminar in Accra on February 26, 2020.

The event was graced by some Ministers of state, Ambassadors of Foreign Embassies and Missions, members of the Clergy as well as some distinguished Traditional Authorities and other concerned Stakeholders in Ghana.

Sanitation is a very Challenging issue in  Ghana. The country loses a whopping $290 million on sanitation of which Open Defecation alone costs us $79million out of the total amount, not forgetting the other environmental harms the country encounters.

In this regard, government has made great strides in the fight against this menace by ensuring a significant increase in Open Defecation Free Communities from 504 to 5,498 since it assumed Office in 2017.

This has not been a different case in Agona West Municipality and under the able leadership of Hon. Justina Marigold Assan, the Municipality has declared 35 communities as Open Defecation Free areas from scratch of which 30 new communities have been identified as potential ODF areas pending approval from the Regional Inter-Agency Co-ordinating Committee on Sanitation (RICCS). Meaning before 2017, there was not a single community in the Municipality that had achieved that status.

This is a very significant achievement and every citizen is therefore encouraged to pledge his support to this laudable vision.

#I support the fight against Open Defecation in Ghana.
