AGONA WEST MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY GETS WASTE MANAGEMENT TRUCK

ZOOMLION GHANA Limited, a waste management company, has donated a truck to the Agona West Municipal Assembly, for door-to-door waste collection.

The truck is also equipped with a public address system, for the purpose of educating the public on waste management and sanitation.

Presenting the keys of the truck to the Regional Minister, Mr. Christian Ocran, the District Manager said the donation of the truck was part of a pilot project being embarked upon by the company, to help fight the problem of waste management in the cities.


The truck would be used, by the assembly for door-to-door collection of waste, and the revenue which would accrue, would go into the finances of the assembly.

Mr. Christian Ocran expressed also, grave concern about the littering of the environment with polythene bags, and said the only way the menace could be handled properly, was through a concerted effort by the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies, the media, and all stakeholders in waste management.

He cautioned that if filth sites were not sited in some capital cities, like Accra and Kumasi to manage waste collection, the indiscriminate disposal of waste could generate into a serious disaster for the country.

He suggested embarrassing those who litter the environment, and enforcement of community service, as possible measures to curbing waste/environmental problems in the country, especially in the regional capitals.

Mr. Ocran said other district and municipal assemblies in the region could also benefit from the multi-purpose truck.

Receiving the vehicle on behalf of the municipal assembly, Mrs. Assan  thanked the company for the initiative, and expressed the hope that it would help solve the problem of waste in the region.
