ROAD SAFETY COMMITTEE INAUGRATED

Following the directives by the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), all Assemblies were tasked to form and inaugurate Road Safety Committee in order to promote road safety strategies in their areas of jurisdiction.

Consequently, the Agona West Municipal Assembly formed and held a brief ceremony on Thursday 23rd May, 2024 to inaugurate its Road Safety Committee. The event took place at the Municipal Assembly Conference Room.

Addressing Members of the Committee, the Municipal Coordinating Director emphasized the importance of road safety as a shared responsibility and highlighted the need for collaborative efforts and innovative solutions to promote road safety issues effectively.

He further indicated that the Assembly in collaboration with Transport Unions and other sub-districts had constituted a taskforce to sanitize and decongest the streets of the Central Business District especially during market days.

Addressing the Committee, the Hon. Municipal Chief Executive expressed his displeasure on the loading of passengers and parking of vehicles on the shoulders of the road especially during market days, hence, the timely constitution of the Committee. He further indicated that the diverse nature of the membership of the Committee would ensure that the right mix of expertise are harnessed to promote road safety within the Municipality.

He further urged Members of the Committee to work together as a team to prevent any form of accident along the streets of the Central Business District and bring their expertise and experiences to bear so as to promote road safety strategies in the Municipality.

Director, NRSC), Daniel Gawugah (Municipal Urban Roads Engineer), C/Inspector Iddrisu Mahama (MTTD Commander), Hon. Kweku Down (GPRTU), HoN. Micheal Forson (Assembly Member), Eric Arthur (Health Promotion Officer).
